Task

An expanding mission-critical MEP subcontractor was seeking a Project Director for one of their newly-won UK projects in Oxfordshire.

Due to client pressure the Project Director role was urgent and required someone with specific mission-critical and Mechanical contracting experience who was available quickly. With most of these individuals in high-pressure, well-paid roles on 3 month notice periods this was a particularly challenging hire.

Action

Core Talent met with the Group Managing Director on 2nd October to Know his World: we took the job specification & agreed the process. The job brief was approved and Core Talent begun the search the same day.

Core Talent reached out to its existing network of Project Director level candidates within the mission-critical sector in the UK and used a targeted headhunt to identify further candidates who fit the brief and were available in the required timeframe.

We longlisted 8 candidates, referenced these candidates and then shortlisted 4. All four candidates were put through a 1st stage interview process, with one being identified as a potential future leader but too senior for the Project Director role.

As such, 3 candidates were progressed to 2nd stage, all of which took place within 2 weeks of the original briefing call with the Managing Director.

One of the candidates was identified by Core Talent as working for a competitor for the last 7 years and who had recently become immediately available after an extended holiday following a project completion.

9 working days after the briefing call an Offer was accepted by this candidate and the Project Director was on site the following Monday; exactly 2 weeks following the original brief.
